Nephew Bre in Linchpin by Seth Godin

My book of the week is Linchpin by Seth Godin. In it he explores how you can become a linchpin (indispensable) at work. Imagine my surprise when I came upon the section "The Cult of Done", in which Godin cites my nephew Bre's blog entry manifesto. See it yourself here: http://www.brepettis.com/blog/2009/3/3/the-cult-of-done-manifesto.html

Love to see you referenced in best-selling books Bre! Way to go...

Sigh - technophobe computer professional...

Well, today I added (I think) myself to Networked Blogs. Don't ask me what that is, I really don't know. I believe this is going to look different, and I think I need to unhook myself from Facebook notes, and I don't know what that is going to do to the folks that are now following me... Thanks for your support and encouragement! For now, I am going to assume that you all are much better at this than I am, and so will try not to worry about it. Tomorrow I'll ask a whiz at work to make sure I've sorted all this out ok. Then I'll really get going!

All of this reinforces my latest realization about the state of "not knowing", which I have been living in for the past couple of years as I've considered pursuing a new career in a new place. The realization is simply this: We are always in a place of not knowing. We don't know what is going to happen in the next minute, or the next year. Most of the time we don't even know what just happened! We don't ever really move out of the realm of not knowing. So tonight I will simply declare "I don't know anything." And certainly, please don't ask me anything about setting up a blog!

On the path

Today is a major step on the path of becoming visible... I'm blogging! As an introvert I have spent most of my life spiraling into my center. The last decade has been a period of tremendous growth and personal change. I am now beginning to unwind the spiral, to move out into the world in a more visible way, to share some of what I have learned in this journey of becoming. As a private person I am loathe to share private thoughts and musings with the world. I have been assured that this is a requirement in today's world... so watch out world, here I come!
